Leading with values: Helping business owners find fulfilment & success

The Coaching Academy Blog

Posted: July 2024

This week's Coach in the Spotlight Kate Watt.  With a background that combines executive-level leadership and operational knowledge, Kate is adept at supporting business owners. Through her coaching business she empowers micro/small business owners to build thriving enterprises that are deeply aligned with their core values and personal well-being.

The Power of a Values-Led Approach to Coaching

I have recognised that taking an intuitive, values-led approach to coaching enables me to empower founding CEOs & micro business owners to establish and scale their businesses in the most authentic and enjoyable way possible.

Combining my executive leadership, operational expertise, coaching skills, and a values-led approach, through my coaching business (22 Coaching Ltd), I help business owners integrate personal values into their businesses.  I support them in creating strong foundations for success without sacrificing their sense of self, joy, and fulfilment - they can truly have their cake and eat it!

Enhancing Clarity, Confidence, and Self-Belief

Much like fine-tuning a radio, connecting with your driving values and attuning to your authentic self, enhances clarity, confidence and self-belief. When your actions and choices resonate with your values, it allows you to live in a state of 'energetic flow', making things feel easier - it's like the difference between being a salmon struggling to swim upstream Vs a dolphin swimming with the flow of the current - your energy is more high-vibrational, and you are more likely to experience a meaningful and satisfying life. When you are responsible for running a business, the impact of this synergy extends beyond your own life, into your business and the lives of those within it.

In being fully connected with my own driving values, my ability to tap into my intuition is heightened. This has strengthened how I am able to hear my clients in a way that is beyond just the words they are using to truly put them at the centre of the experience.

Aligning Personal and Business Values

In my pre-coaching career, I experienced the impacts on business success and employee engagement as a result of both positive workplace culture and toxic workplace culture. I love the idea that working with business owners when they are at the point of laying the foundations of their business, allows me to support them to build a successful business, and that the positive impact of creating that synergy ripples out and touches the lives of people within their business.

As a business owner, your business is a projection of you. Aligning your values with those of the business is essential in creating a healthy, sustainable and purpose-driven organisation. It not only positively influences internal dynamics and employee engagement but has external benefits, such as attracting the right talent and building trust with customers and partners and driving overall business success.

My Top 3 Coaching Tips as a Values-led Micro/Small Business Coach are:

  1. Your business starts with you. Make understanding yourself and your driving values your number one goal. The journey to self is never ending and is one you should be willing and excited to embark on. Be unapologetic about the beauty of your individualism!
  2. Create congruence with your values and business goals. As your values are your expression of self – they need to be honoured and upheld for you and your business to feel aligned. In doing this you create synergy within your business which will allow you to cultivate a positive workplace culture and have a business you are proud of.
  3. As a business owner, the journey can be a lonely one, I would recommend investing as much as you can in building a supportive network around you. Whether it is through coaching or joining small business networking communities, there is a lot to learn from others who are going through or have been through the challenges of being a business owner!

Finding Fulfilment in Coaching

Finding a career in coaching has allowed me to create a life for myself where my ‘work’ does not feel like work. I am able to live in a state of 'flow' and I get to operate as part of an ecosystem of people who are interested in being the leader of their own lives, levelling-up personally & professionally and winning at life! Every interaction I have with my clients and The Coaching Academy community contributes to my own personal and professional development.

Establishing my own coaching business has allowed me the freedom to work with my dream clients and make the most of the sun whenever it shines!

I'd highly recommend coaching as a career for anyone who is curious about personal and professional development, living life freely and seeing other people win!
