This week's Coach in the Spotlight is Thomasina Unsworth! Before Thomasina trained as a coach, she worked as an actor, using this experience as well as her life coaching, Thomasina supports creatives such as actors, musicians, dancers and writers to become more confident, work through creative blocks and to get their work out in the world.
I have always been interested in people. For many years I was an actor, actors need empathy in order to tell their character’s stories. What makes us do the things we do? What stops us from doing the things we want to do? How do we respond to the people and events that we meet in life? After having children I started to work more and more as an acting coach. as such I realised that the key ingredients to working with actors were understanding their blocks and working alongside them to release their imagination, creativity and confidence. Personal development coaching felt like a natural extension to all of this.
It has helped me reconsider my own values and wants and as a result it has led me to leave a job that was not fulfilling me and to start working for myself.
I was working full time in a very demanding role and the flexibility of the Life Coaching Diploma was amazing. I was able to attend sessions in the evenings and weekends, but also in the periods when I was too busy I didn’t panic because I could pick up the learning and attend sessions at a later date. There was always support available and I was able to complete the training at my own pace and in my own time.
It opened my mind to how we communicate with each other, and how we see the world in different ways. The process of coaching is so non judgmental and empowering, I loved the way it freed up my thinking.
The Coaching Academy coach trainers who delivered the training were supportive and clear in their delivery. The Online Learning Platform was easy to use and there were many resources on it to clarify and inspire. I teamed up with another trainee coach I met on a training day and we really supported each other throughout the whole process.
I work with clients privately specialising in confidence building and affecting change. I also work for a university coaching final year students as they make the transition between full time education and employment in the wider world. I am part of a team of coaches working for a company called Wellbeing in the Arts which is specifically aimed at supporting artists including actors, musicians and dancers. I work with writers helping them to present their work publicly and also in support of them when they hit creative blocks.
I am curious about what stops us from achieving the things we want to, all the inhibitors that get in our way and disempower us. I believe we are all capable of far more than we think we are and I am fascinated about coming to a deeper understanding of the particular and individual way each of us works and how whatever blocks us or intimidates us can be unpacked so that we can reach our potential and liberate ourselves from those things that hold us back.
The Coaching Academy was established in 1999, and is now the world's largest coaching school.
In that time we have trained over 14,000 people to become life coaches.
We are accredited by the International Coach Federation and the Association for Coaching, and we're rated 4.8 out of 5 on Trustpilot.
