For World Narcissistic Abuse Awareness Day we are pleased to be featuring Ronia Fraser as our Coach in the Spotlight, who after winning "International Coach of the Year" in 2019 went on to build an internationally successful Trauma Recovery Coaching business. Ronia is one of the leading experts in Narcissistic Abuse Recovery and is passionate about helping abuse survivors reclaim their lives.
What inspired you to become a coach?
To be honest I hadn’t planned on being a coach. It had never crossed my mind. I saw an ad pop up on my social media for the TCA free event. I wasn’t in a very good place in my life at that time and I figured it's time better spent going there than sitting at home feeling sorry for myself. So I went. Little did I know it would change my life forever. It made such a huge difference in how I felt, completely shifting my focus forward. On the first part, I was like “That’s interesting", on the second “Yeah, I want to do this” - I had my interview with Jamil and 10 days later I set up my first company (Ronia Fraser Coaching). I’ve never looked back!
In what ways has becoming a coach changed your own life?
In literally every single aspect! The life I have now I couldn’t even have imagined before. I was a certified chartered accountant, crunching numbers for 15 years of my life, day in and day out. I don’t even like numbers… Now I get up every morning and absolutely love what I do. It’s what I’ve been put on this earth to do. I make my own schedule, I work whenever I want, with whoever I want, from wherever I want. Being a coach has given me the freedom of living a truly authentic life. And yes, freedom is my top value!
What made you choose The Coaching Academy?
The free introductory event was amazing, the trainers clearly knew what they were doing. My expectations on training are very high, I obviously want my money’s worth. It’s a big investment. And with The Coaching Academy I knew I’d get that and I did.
How did the qualification slot in with your day-to-day life?
Pretty easily. I had so much fun doing it, so it was easy to make it a priority. And once we do, time miraculously appears. I’d imagine now it’s even easier with everything being available online.
When you reflect back, what was the highlight of training with The Coaching Academy?
Getting me out of that negative loop I was in, reminding me that I was in control of my life and empowering me to live my best life. Also the support from The Coaching Academy and the incredibly inspiring people I met on the way, some of which I’m still in touch with today.
How are you using your coaching skills and qualification?
I started part-time, but since my coaching is very niche it grew into a full-time practice within the first year. I was the UK’s first Narcissistic Abuse Recovery Coach back in 2017. Today I’m a multi-award-winning and internationally recognised Trauma Recovery Coach and have been helping abuse survivors from all over the world get back on their feet, regain their mental health and recover who they were always meant to be for the last 6 years. It’s a very advanced application of coaching and of course I don’t use Coaching exclusively but have trained extensively in other modalities such as NLP, Clinical Hypnotherapy and Havening Techniques.
What do you love most about being a coach?
The freedom of living a truly authentic life and being able to make such a difference to peoples’ lives, many of them who are really struggling and have been written off as lost causes by everybody else.
What are you most excited about in the future of your coaching journey?
My approach to Trauma Recovery is considered one of the most effective in the world. I am now training other coaches, therapists and medical professionals so they can help their clients better in the area of Trauma Recovery. I’m also very active as a speaker, traveling the world to raise awareness and share my expertise. I’m already booked out now until mid 2024. Both absolutely blow my mind. A few years ago no one got what I was doing, I kept going anyway. Today the world has started to listen. It’s much-needed and incredibly exciting for me. Narcissistic abuse remains one of the most common, yet least acknowledged forms of abuse which without fail has a detrimental and life-altering impact on the survivor’s mental health and quality of life. It’s not exclusive to romantic relationships, but can happen in families, friendships and in the workplace and impacts so many people directly and indirectly. So it’s important we talk about it! Help is available.
What advice would you give someone who is currently considering pursuing a coaching career?
Absolutely do it! It’s the best thing I’ve done. Not only from a career perspective but even more so for myself. I believe that Coaching is the biggest gift anyone can give themselves.
