Relishing Success Through Coaching - By Debbie Robinson

The Coaching Academy Blog

Posted: November 2017

This week, 'My Client's Success Story Series' continue with TCA's Protégé Graduate - Debbie Robinson's inspiring story of how coaching has changed the life of one of her clients. We hope you enjoy it…

Debbie is a Veterinary Business Development Consultant, Coach and Trainer with over 25 years’ experience in business development. She is a specialist in Business Growth, High Performance Team Development and Leadership coaching.

• What was your profession before becoming a coach?

I was a sales and marketing director for an I.T company – completely different. I was there for 12 years. I actually bought the company with my fellow directors. We bought that company at just under 4 million and grew it to 20 million. And that was our objective, to grow it to 20 million and sell it. Then when I sold it, it was like, what am I gonna do now? I obviously had a bit of money in the bank, so I took some holidays and did some stuff to the house, and then I felt really bored. So it was then, deciding what I was gonna do next…

• Why did you want to become a coach?

I didn’t want to do 60 hours a week as a sales director anymore. I had enough. When I had the time, I actually looked at my book case, and it suddenly dawned on me that there were all these self-development books; how to be a better leader, and how to get the best out of your team. And I’d never really had the time, because I was an operational manager, I was there in it, doing it. I had never really had time to become skilled in any of the stuff. So I thought that would be interesting, and then quite literally something popped up on LinkedIn and it was the Free 2-Day Introduction to Life Coaching Course by The Coaching Academy. Then I thought, I’ve got nothing to lose. So I went along to the 2-Days and absolutely fell in love with it. I signed up there and then for the Protégé Programme. I just saw this as: this is what I want to do. I want to become a qualified coach.

• What was your experience being trained by The Coaching Academy? Could you summarise your coaching experience with TCA?

My experience being trained by The Coaching Academy was just great. I think they’re some of the best trainers I’ve ever seen. They’re so inclusive, fun and really knowledgeable. They’re just there for you. When you’re there on the weekend training, they were just so helpful and brought the whole subject to life. Great coaches, but also great facilitators of learning. I’ve learnt an awful lot from watching them and I’ve gone into training other people myself as well. I hold them up as the role models for what I want to achieve when I’m training.
