Hollywood Director's Coaching Breakthrough - By David Hare

The Coaching Academy Blog

Posted: November 2017

This week, David Hare sat down with The Coaching Academy to tell us about a powerful success story that changed the life of one of his clients - Jeremy, an award winning, young Hollywood director. We hope you enjoy it

David Hare is an author, trainer and The coaching Academy’s Life Coach of The Year 2016 - A coach, who inspires individuals to be even more marvelous than they already are and help teams achieve peak performance. He has been coaching for 12 years and has dozens of happy clients across the UK, Europe, Australasia and the USA. Most people he works with have big breakthroughs within four to six powerful sessions.

• What was your profession before becoming a coach?

I had two careers before becoming a coach. I was an academic in the early 90’s and then I later fell into marketing, PR, and comms. My last job was as the global PR director for TNT in the parcels market.

• Why did you want to become a coach?

To be honest, it wasn’t a conscious decision. The job I was in came to an end. One minute I was in a private jet going to a board meeting in the South of France, and the next minute I was out of that company. I had some spare money and time to look around at what I wanted to do and I literally stumbled across Coaching on the internet one day, and after being offered free training, I saw the power of coaching. I had a half hour conversation with a brilliant coach called Elizabeth, who sorted out some confusion about my career path. She did it very compassionately, very respectfully, and also very quickly. So I thought, this coaching stuff, there’s something about it, it’s powerful, I think I can do it. So I thought, I’ll look into it, I’ll study it, and see where it takes me.

• Most people become a coach to change the lives of others… How has coaching benefited your own life?

It’s brilliant, it transformed my life. It completely changed the way I look at life. It changed the way that I see solutions now, rather than problems. It helped me look at everyone’s potential and who they could be. And it’s just given me huge satisfaction. I’ve just been coaching someone this morning and when I arrived they were not in a great place. They had a very bad week. After the session, the guy said, “I feel completely different, and it’s thanks to you”. So, you can’t put a price on that. Obviously, I’m getting paid for it, but the flutter you get in your belly when someone’s having a lightbulb moment, it’s quite hard to put into words. I feel fulfilled. If a coaching session has gone well, and most of them do, I’ll put the phone down, or come out of the office and I’ll be buzzing, floating. So, it’s a great feeling. The magic of coaching
