As somebody who has named many businesses, I know that this can be an exciting and frustrating time. So how do you find the right name for your business? Here are a few dos and don’ts:
Don't try to be too clever or too cryptic in choosing a name.
The common mistake with trying to go with a business name that has a deep meaning or one that is a bit unusual, is that it’s difficult for others to remember. If you have to explain your company name, the meaning behind it or clarify a complicated spelling every time you are talking about your business then you are making it harder to stay in the minds of potential clients.
Keep it simple, say what is on the tin. Make your company name really easy to remember.
Maybe consider using your own name. It’s worked well for people like Tony Robbins and Brian Tracy so, for example, if you’re Sarah Jones, then why not use Sarah Jones Coaching? It’s simple, memorable and self-explanatory.
1.) Make sure it’s memorable
2.) Make it easy to spell
3.) Maybe say what you do. For example Sarah Jones Relationship Coach or Ann Browne Parent Coach
4.) Consider and be considerate of other companies that may have trademarked certain names. For example, if you are going to be a weight watch coach then you might expect to see some legal correspondence from Weight Watchers.
Wishing you well
Bev
