2025, the year you became a Life Coach

The Coaching Academy Blog

Posted: January 2025

A brand-new year can be the ideal time for reflection, goal setting and a fresh new beginning. With almost half of UK adults keen to start their own business; could 2025 be the year you take the leap to make a big change?

One of the most rewarding and impactful paths you can explore is becoming a life coach.

Imagine being the person who helps others navigate life's challenges, set meaningful goals, and create the life they truly desire. If this resonates with you, then starting a life coaching certification course could be the most empowering decision you make this year.

The beauty of being a life coach is that you have the power to create a career that aligns with your values, strengths, and passions.

Empower Yourself to Empower Others

Starting a new career can feel intimidating, especially if it’s something entirely new. However, don’t forget: every successful journey begins with a first step. Training to be a life coach is a pathway to personal growth as well. As you learn to help others achieve clarity and success, you will also discover new aspects of yourself and develop skills that enhance your own life.

Here are some of our top tips to support you on this journey:

  • Set Clear Goals      The key to success in any learning environment is having a clear vision of why you’re doing it. Before diving into the course material, take some time to reflect on your goals. Why do you want to become a life coach? What kind of impact do you want to have on others? Having these answers in mind will fuel your motivation and help you stay focused.
  • Create a Routine     Consistency is crucial, and setting aside dedicated time for your studies each week will help you stay on track. You may need to adjust your daily schedule, but it’s important to prioritise your learning. Whether it's a few hours on weekends or some time each evening, make studying a non-negotiable part of your routine.
  • Stay Organised    Staying organised will make the process much easier. Use planners, digital apps, or a simple to-do list to track your progress, assignments, and important deadlines. Breaking larger tasks into smaller, manageable pieces and keep you moving forward.
  • Be Kind to Yourself     Returning to study after a break is a chance to rebuild your skills and confidence. It’s completely normal to need some time to adjust, so be patient with yourself and it’s important to give yourself grace. Progress comes from persistence, not perfection. Celebrate small victories, and remember that every step brings you closer to your goal.
  • Tap Into Your Support System    Don’t hesitate to reach out for help when you need it. Whether it’s joining our Facebook community, a peer-to-peer study group, seeking mentorship from fellow coaches further ahead in their journey, or simply having a friend or family member to talk to when you feel stuck, leaning on your support system can make a world of difference. You don’t have to do it alone.
  • Stay Open to New Ideas     The beauty of becoming a life coach is the diversity of perspectives and experiences you will encounter. Keep an open mind throughout your training and be ready to absorb new tools, techniques, and approaches. Embrace the process of learning as a way to expand your own horizons while developing your skills to help others expand theirs.

We asked some of the team here at The Coaching Academy to share some of their experiences from their own personal Life Coaching journeys:

  • Alex: Deciding to pivot my career in my 40's seemed like a mountain to climb, but by the end of the Diploma, I was ready to launch my own Coaching Practice and I haven't looked back! I now have incredible coaching clients all over the world, and the life I always wanted... and this is just the beginning!
  • Katherine: Retraining as a coach after redundancy was a huge step, my biggest tips for this journey is that you are your own first client, take your new learnings on for yourself and notice how you progress and develop. Most importantly enjoy it!
  • Amelia: Discovering coaching and training to be a coach was definitely transformational for me.  I remember clearly attending the free Introduction to Life Coaching event and truly feeling that I had found my ‘lane’!  The satisfaction and joy that comes from helping others transform their lives for the better is priceless, let alone with the insight and tools it gives you make your own life better!
  • Fran: My advice on the calls with new starters is usually around becoming a student again.  Enjoy being in that learning space before it all becomes official.  Let our trainers do the wonderful work they do and surrender to not knowing everything, take each day as it comes.

As you embark on this journey, remember that each day brings new opportunities, both for you and for those you’ll help. Trust in your ability to make a difference, stay committed to your goals, and enjoy the rewarding path that lies ahead. The world is waiting for your guidance, and this could be the year that you transform not only your own life but the lives of countless others.
