Many of us start our own life coaching businesses as newly qualified coaches and launch straight into it before first considering what we are trying to achieve and what success looks like to us. Before we know it, we’re focused entirely on the day to day running of the coaching business and have lost the ability to look beyond the short term demands of running a small business and fulfilling our client needs.
Taking the time to consider your priorities and the vision of success for the year ahead can help you plan and prioritise the most efficient route to meeting and achieving your vision as a successful life coach.
Take time to consider the core purpose of your business and define why are you doing it. Consider how will you benefit from the success of your business and how. There are likely to be many ways you will benefit so consider them all. For you it may be gaining control over your time and the flexibility the business gives you. For others it may be financial success leading to financial security. What is it for you?
Once you have considered how you personality will benefit, then consider who else will benefit from your success and how they will benefit. Perhaps the flexibility and control over your time will benefit your children and those you care for. Perhaps financial independence will enable to you finally take that dream holiday. Or perhaps your success benefits the wider community.
Like all great coaching conversations, always ask yourself that key question, “What else….” Consider deeply and you’ll create a realisation of the many benefits and beneficiaries of your success which you can keep at the forefront of your mind as a great motivator to you achieving success.
We are all unique, as will be our priorities. Taking time to consider your priorities in all aspects of your personal and professional life is key to creating a balance between your personal life and your business. Consider not just those priorities which you feel you ‘Should’ do but also those that excite and interest you, those that bring you joy and nothing more!
Take time to schedule your priorities and consider, what you are willing and able to negotiate? Be true to yourself so you can remain truly focused on your priorities.
Taking time to define your vision of success for the year ahead and considering your different measures of success will ensure you are able to monitor your progress and celebrate your success, each and every step along the way. Define exactly how you will celebrate your success and share that success - It brings me so much joy when a client share their success in that moment of celebration!
Once you have your vision and have a clear measure of success to know when you’ve achieved success, make sure you articulate is positively and write it down. Pin it somewhere visible to keep you motivated along your path to success.
You will now have complete control over your own success and have the measures of success in place which are right for you while taking into account the other key priorities you have in your life.
Finally, my top tip for you is to keep to your own path as you grow your life coaching business and try not to be pulled in another direction which can ultimately go against your vision. As new opportunities and challenges arise, ask yourself the question, “How does this help me reach my vision?” This simple ask will help you keep on track and not deviate from the path towards your vision. You will ultimately be more time efficient, be more targeted in your efforts and maintain a work/life balance that works for you.
Good luck!
