This week's Coach in the Spotlight is Rebecca Mercer. Rebecca worked in HR before training to become a coach, and now, she coaches within her HR career, along with running her own coaching business focusing on ‘Conscious Careering and Leadership Coaching’. Today she shares her coaching journey and the ways she is using her coaching skills to help transform the lives of those she coaches.
Throughout my HR career, my passion has always been people’s development & well-being. However, the more senior I became, the more removed I felt from the people in the organisation - something was lacking and needed to change. I enrolled in the Life Coaching Diploma to cement my coaching skills with a formal qualification that would allow me to directly and authentically partner with individuals, privately or within organisations, to support their professional and personal growth journeys.
Coaching has been a transformational process for me. It has helped me break down limiting beliefs that have held me back my entire life and allowed me to face significant challenges more confidently and constructively.
I was determined to qualify in the shortest period possible. As the studies are flexible, it was easy for me to weave them into my existing work and family commitments and I received my qualification within 10 months.
The most rewarding part of my journey is seeing clients leave our sessions empowered. I specifically recall one client saying she has gone from simply having a life, to living her life. It was a privilege to be a passenger on the client’s journey and to experience the impact that coaching had on her.
I qualified in July 2022. Since then I have been using my skills within my current role supporting managers and employees in a growing organisation. I have also set up my own business, Rebecca Mercer Coaching, that focuses on ‘Conscious Careering and Leadership Coaching’ for both private clients and organisations. In June this year, I joined Careering into Motherhood, which offers coaching support to careering mothers, as a partner coach.
Wellbeing - personal and professional. We live in incredibly volatile and uncertain times and I wholeheartedly believe that coaching is a transformational oxygen mask for those seeking to develop resilience and find fulfilment and a greater sense of purpose in their professional & personal lives.
Coaching is an ongoing journey of growth, but the reward can be incredibly transformational and it is therefore really important to exercise self-compassion, patience, and perseverance.
The mentors I had the pleasure of speaking to gave me invaluable advice that helped me find my own coaching voice. Additionally, fellow students that I partnered with to study and coach have been a great source of support, advice, and guidance.
Thank you Rebecca for sharing your inspirational journey with us!
