This week's Coach in the Spotlight is Lisa Kent! Lisa is a qualified Coaching Academy Graduate who went on a journey of self-discovery after feeling like something was missing, and coaching helped her to find the missing piece of the puzzle! Read on to learn more about Lisa's journey!
I found the route to coaching when I reached a point in my life where I felt totally lost and didn't really know who I was anymore. I wasn't sad or struggling with my mental health, I just wasn't sure what I wanted to do, I had been a mum for over 15 years, spent a lot of time helping family members through some difficult times, and at the age of 40, everything began to change. Although I was a partner in a successful business with my husband running a martial arts academy, I still felt there was something missing.
The coaching process has really helped me find out who I am again and figure out what was missing. It has built up my confidence and helped me understand who I am and why I think the way I do. It has helped me see how bad my self-sabotage was and how we think has a huge impact on our daily lives. I am now a great believer in we are what we think, and this is why it is so important to consistently catch what we are thinking, stay positive and see the best in every day. Obviously, we all have down days, but acknowledging that and moving forward is key.
Although I was still working full-time with the Martial Arts Academy, I was determined to step out of my comfort zone to help find the person I wanted to be. I was very lucky as my husband was happy for me to take a step back from the academy and have a couple of evenings at home where I could study and fit in my coaching training.
The most rewarding part of the coaching journey for me really comes in two parts. The first part is definitely being able to help someone move forward and achieve their goals and aspirations. The light bulb moment as they realise that they have been standing in their own way and that they are in control of their own lives. The second part is the growth I have experienced myself as a person and feeling like I am back in charge of my future, the confidence I have found to just be myself and love who I am as a person.
The options are limitless and I'm still figuring out where my coaching is going to take me. But one thing I do know is I can relate to other middle-aged ladies, whose children have grown up and that feel they are lost and not sure who they should be anymore. I would love in the future to work with these ladies to help them ignite their passion again for life and put them on a path of rediscovery. I'm also sure that the coaching will have a huge impact on our students at the martial arts academy!
I can't wait to learn more about the mindset and how our thoughts and negative patterns have a huge impact on our day-to-day lives. How to create a more positive mindset and create habits that will last a lifetime. Plus, I'm curious about what other tools I can add to my toolkit to help others.
We're all on our own journey, and we all seek out different things for different reasons. But if you love helping others in a positive way, helping them become future-focused, and creating a safe space for them to pursue life-long goals, then coaching is definitely for you.
There have been so many different things that have helped me along my coaching journey, from all the resources on the main student portal to the great staff and coaches at The Coaching Academy, to the fantastic group of friends I have made on the way, to reading some amazing books. One of my favorites was "Feel the Fear and do it anyway" by Susan Jefferies and "Atomic Habits" by James Clear.
The Coaching Academy was established in 1999, and is now the world's largest coaching school.
In that time we have trained over 14,000 people to become life coaches.
We are accredited by the International Coach Federation and the Association for Coaching, and we're rated 4.8 out of 5 on Trustpilot.
