Many people first come across the concept of coaching within the world of sports. With the Olympics in full swing, we see most athletes have a coach of their own, to help them excel and showcase the best version of themselves.
As coaches, we know that high-performance has as much to do with mindset as improving skills towards mastery. So when individuals have fitness-related goals, knowing pure coaching skills can be an invaluable tool to help them achieve their goal, along with the fitness and trainer knowledge.
Today we're sharing the stories of 3 students of The Coaching Academy who work within the fitness industry and have quickly recognized the value of adding coaching skills to their toolset.
Sarah Corcoran, Jonathan Skelton, Larissa Clarke support individuals with their health goals in different ways and coaching has become an integral part of their lives.
Sarah Corcoran is a fitness coach and HR professional and has felt the power of coaching on her own skin. It helped her build discipline and compete in bodybuilding national championships while also learning skills she can adapt in all areas of life. She noticed a shift in her clients once she started implementing coaching techniques and put her clients in the driver's seat. By giving them more ownership over their goals, they were even more motivated to achieve their fitness targets.
Jonathan Skelton is a PE teacher who originally started his coaching studies as an exit strategy but found that his coaching skills have become a life-changing tool for his students and staff alike. The kids he works with feel empowered to take charge of their lives and dreams and he has recently successfully finished a pilot programme that supports the professional needs of his colleagues.
Larissa Clarke has a background in psychology and sports science and has been a personal trainer for almost 7 years now. She noticed a change within her clients when she started asking more questions and connecting them to their goals by using coaching techniques.
