Nicolette Bell - The greatest wealth is health

The Coaching Academy Blog

Posted: May 2021

This week's Coach in the Spotlight is Nicolette Bell, a Nutrition and Lifestyle Coach. After a big change and moving to London, Nicolette came across coaching and The Coaching Academy and has found her purpose in helping others create sustainable healthy habits. She has not looked back since! Enjoy her story.

What has led you to coaching?

When I was 38, I got divorced and I decided to move to London from California because I wanted to start anew. I was overwhelmed as to what and where to start; should I deal with building up my self-esteem again or finding a new job to sustain my needs.

As I enjoy working with people and helping others, I thought about coaching and started googling it at 3 am one night, then the free Introduction to Life Coaching course came up. I decided to attend the course to develop myself, meet like-minded people and see if this career path could be something for me.

On one of the 15-minute practice coaching sessions, I witnessed the sudden shift of mindset on my practice client and that's when I realized the positive impact I can make on others by simply believing in them, listening empathetically and showing that I cared without any judgment.

During the course, there was a lot of coaching practice sessions that helped me know myself more, gain clarity on my values and align my goals to it which has made me self-aware, happier and more content.

What was the most rewarding part of your Coaching journey?

As the accelerator classes were spread out, I was able to manage and balance my work and studies. I particularly enjoyed attending the accelerator days because I got to meet so many interesting people being on the same journey.

The practice coaching sessions were very rewarding as we were given tools to get to know ourselves more on a personal level and as a coach. Self-awareness is very important because it makes us tune more to our emotions and inner thoughts so we can control and turn them into something positive.

Tell us about the work you do! How are you using your coaching skills?

During my coaching sessions while at TCA, I realized that most of my practice clients approached me about nutrition and lifestyle goals. So, I started reading books about Nutrition and slowly they filled up my small library and most importantly my thoughts.

As I was reading them, I was amazed to learn all the benefits they bring into our body and to our wellness. Thus, I decided to pursue an additional Diploma in Nutrition and make this my coaching focus.

Now, I am helping people instil healthy habits and I find it rewarding to see the positive impact on their lives. The area I am most interested in is that with a little guidance and support, people can often easily change habits they tried for a long time to overcome.

The mind and subconscious blocks can be very powerful but with the right mindset and habits can easily be overcome.

What advice would you give someone wanting to pursue a life coaching career?

Be clear on your why! Why do you want to do this? What will your niche be? If you have the commitment, perseverance and determination to help even the most difficult client you could possibly encounter, then you can say more surely, this is my life which I envisioned myself to be.  Go for it! It is a very rewarding & fulfilling job.

The best resources were books, I listened to podcasts and the most helpful one is the experience of coaching. You can learn all the theory there is, but if you don't do coaching sessions, you will not develop.
