Laurent Coste - Own your lives & Enjoy your life

The Coaching Academy Blog

Posted: January 2021

This week's Coach in the Spotlight is Laurent Coste, who has found a new purpose within coaching and is now helping others live a fulfilled life. Enjoy his inspiring story and make sure you answer the reflective questions at the end of the article!

I spent 2 years to review my past and present lives, and amend myself with the support of different coaches, each of them specialist within their own area. The world of coaching opened its doors to me in 2018. Before it was just a word part of the sporting world that I could hear in American movies. And one day, over a professional exchange with my boss, my eyes opened to my situation, and I had to take a decision which literally changed my life for the better.

I spent 2 years to review my past and present lives, and amend myself with the support of different coaches, each of them specialist within their own area. I had to face my past lives, and learn how to enjoy the present time and how to create the life I wanted with my rules.

During my new journey, using the opportunity to live in London, I went to many networking events, workshops, speeches and coaching’s presentations. As you can imagine, it was before Covid-19, during a time we were physically meeting each of us. And finally, even with a Life Coaching diploma already on my wall, I decided to sign with TCA for the Life Coaching Diploma.

"In April 2020, due to the pandemic, the hotels I was working with closed and with them my main revenue stream. I had the choice between crying about my situation or do something else."

The Coaching Academy gave me another frame to coach with, the opportunity to meet a lot of people through the live Accelerator Days (before the virtual versions), and the chance to practice my sessions with a large spectrum of different personalities. With it, I got a clear idea of the type of person I like to work with, the type of person I enjoy coaching. If I could give one advice to you currently in training, think about why you are doing it, why do you want to be a coach. And, before anything else, print the 10 questions for your final paper. Even if they are not clear to you now, having them in front from the beginning of your path will be very helpful during your time of development. And, one more thing, love your life, love yourself, and enjoy the process.

My background is within the hospitality industry. To make my job’s description (very) simple, I am one of the people behind the price that you pay when you book a hotel room. The knowledge, open-minded, ability to think, reflect, question, listen to, etc. I’ve got with my development as a coach helped me a lot in regards to my way of managing better all hotel Directors and various Stakeholders I was working with.

In April 2020, due to the pandemic, the hotels I was working with closed and with them my main revenue stream. I had the choice between crying about my situation or do something else. So I decided to use the time in front of me as an opportunity to finish my PPD training with TCA and to develop my coaching business. Both boxes checked I am now focusing on what I really love: guiding others to get the life they want.

Many asked me about how I found my coaching niche. I must admit that this reflection brought me many challenges, to not say difficulties. What I have done is exactly what I preach. I took the problem from another angle. And then, I focused not on what is my niche market, but what is my ideal client. And through it, I got to my niche.

Your life is not just one, but the association of all of your lives, past and present, professional, personal, familial, social, as the child of X, as the parent of Y, as the friend of Z. And altogether, they shape the person that you are and create the life you are living through the choices and decision that you make. What I do is to make you not the puppet, but the actor of your lives, to own them all, and so to enjoy your life as you want it to be.

Do you want to enjoy your life? So ask yourself these questions:

  • What do you want? What do you TRULY want?
  • Why do you want it? What difference will it make into your life?
  • How can you do it?
  • What is stopping you? What are you afraid of?
  • What do you believe which, in fact, hold your back?
  • How can you make it one of your strength instead?

“Life is a question of choices, so make the right ones to enjoy your life.”
