Marta Rodriguez-Karpowicz - A whole new chapter of my life

The Coaching Academy Blog

Posted: February 2019

This week our wonderful coach, Marta Rodriguez-Karpowicz shared with us her inspiring coaching journey and how coaching empowered her to achieve her daring goals. As a busy mum of 3 kids with a full-time job, Marta faced huge challenges on her learning journey. It is through coaching, Marta revealed, she had learned to overcome her challenges, limiting beliefs, fears and finally found her life purpose. She is now excited to enter a whole new chapter of her life. We hope you enjoy reading Marta's story.

What brought you to coaching?

For as long as I remember, I’ve struggled to answer the question: “Who do you want to be when you grow up”? I’d have many ideas, but none of them felt as “the right one” for more than 5 minutes. As I hit a decade on the motherhood count and rounded 8 years at a large corporation I worked for, I started to feel the urge to figure out what is the right life and career path for me. I wished to live my life more purposefully.

It was actually my husband who inspired my interest in coaching. He had told me that I’d make a great coach for several years before I started to listen to a podcast about coaching, read a couple of books and finally hired my first life coach. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to become a full-time coach, but I was sure that I wanted to master the coaching tool-set. I am a Pole living in Denmark who wants to coach in English, so it took me a while to find the right coaching education. It was the great experience of TCA’s free 2 Days event, which I attended in October 2017, that convinced me to choose The Coaching Academy.

What was the most rewarding part of the journey?

The most rewarding part of the journey, by far, was to work with my clients and their dreams and to witness their progress towards the achievement. Additionally, I have experienced an invaluable benefit by volunteering to be a client in the Value Elicitation Demo, which ended up being a real turn-around moment in my self-awareness. From that point, an accelerated process of overcoming inner-limitation has begun.

How did the qualification slot in with your current life?

Being a mum to three kids, working at a large corporation as a Business Process Specialist, co-hosting a radio show & podcast “You’ve Got 5 Options”, having a husband who travels a lot for work and living away from both families, I surely had a huge challenge ahead of me. However, in February 2018, as I was preparing for a motivational speech at a local University, I set myself a long-term goal: My Coaching Certificate will be hanging on my wall by 31.12.2018. I used my own case to teach young people how to “Keep-up the motivation through goal-setting”.

Where are you now? How are you using your coaching skills?

I made a commitment to myself that I will resign from my corporate job and start my own business by the end of 2018. However, first, I needed to work through a large pile of limiting beliefs and fears. With the support of coaching, NLP and conscious healing, which is now the second leg in my new business, I have slowly but surely continued to build my confidence and courage to leave a very comfy comfort zone. Defining my niche has been quite a process which will certainly go on as I learn and grow.

For starters, based on my experience and the topics I am passionate about, I have decided to deep-dive into the subject of motivation and I defined two offers. One of them is directed to leaders and their teams, where I work with individual and team motivation. The second one is personal, where I help people overcome procrastination, build and keep up their motivation. I combine the coaching and NLP tools, my long experience in workshop facilitation, training, motivational speaking and conscious healing and I step by step build my own approach.

As I am writing this short article, I am looking at the Coaching Certificate on my wall. I have said goodbye to my great manager and the colleagues I’ve worked with for almost a decade. I am now with hope and excitement entering to a whole new chapter of my life.

What are your coaching top tips?

As a result of that groundwork, I created a strong foundation for achieving my goal; five tips that I applied for myself, which I’d like to share with all of you who are considering becoming coaches and undergo training:

1. Define your big “why”- what is the purpose of you doing the coaching training? what will it give you? have that “why” close with you as a reminder when it gets tricky or tough.

2. Make a great plan- break it down to phases with clear outcomes and actions. continuously follow up on your plan and update if needed.

3. Keep on transforming your limiting beliefs into empowering ones- get friendly with that inner, negative voice and use it as the best information source on what’s been holding you back and turn it into what will help you keep on going.

4. Support yourself with solid routines & rituals- schedule your webinars & clients, book the time slot for doing your documentation right after the session.

5. Get your own coach - yep, it’s a great idea!
