Whether it’s learning new skills, exploring your creativity, or hiring a coach, investing in yourself reinforces your sense of worth. It's an act of self-love and demonstrates that you value your potential. Self-investment is one of the most exciting and fulfilling commitments you can make to yourself.
3 ways to invest in yourself to reach your goals this year:
1. Develop your skills
Educating yourself and improving your skills can help you strive to be better, as well as empower you to enjoy your free time with a new hobby. On a physiological level, learning new skills and information is good for your brain. According to CCSU Business and Development, practising a new skill increases the density of the white matter in your brain that helps improve performance on a number of tasks. You can invest in skills that will benefit you professionally, personally or brush up on a hobby you loved in your childhood, the key is to challenge yourself with something you enjoy. So, invest time in acquiring knowledge and developing your skills to empower you with tools that will make you and those around you become better.
2. Explore your creativity
We all have a wealth of creativity, in some form or another, within us, however, we don’t always recognise the value of exploring our creativity. Whether it’s learning a new language, signing up for a cooking course, writing short stories or taking time to create something, exploring your creativity helps you view problems and solutions in an innovative way and utilise different parts of your brain. It’s a great way to invest in yourself and deepen your understanding of the world around you. Furthermore, exploring your creativity is an enjoyable way to invest in yourself.
3. Invest in your well-being
Often times people confuse self-love with self-indulgence. However, taking time out to invest in your wellbeing and to nurture your mind and body is one of the most important things you can do for yourself. It will allow you to have more energy, self-awareness, compassion and physical and mental endurance. Investing in your mental and physical health can include: exploring culture, meditating, keeping your mind active, exercising regularly, eating healthy or even giving yourself permission to just be. It will help you cultivate a happier and healthier lifestyle, that will benefit you both in the present and the future.
Investing in yourself will ultimately make all the difference in your life. As, your wellbeing, your sense of value and your skillset grow, you will empower yourself to thrive and live to your fullest potential. Self-improvement cultivates and shapes the way you view yourself, as well as how others see you. As such, your future is in large part shaped by the investment you put into yourself now.
