Lisa Jayne Powell - Breakdown to breakthrough

The Coaching Academy Blog

Posted: August 2018

This week, our wonderful coach, Lisa Lopez sat down and shared with us her amazing coaching journey and how coaching awakened and set her free to a new life. Lisa finally found herself looking at life through a new set of eyes…

We hope you enjoy.

What brought you to coaching?

My mum had advised me for years to get a life coach as she knew I had big dreams. I never thought much of it. Then when I was trying to get my 1st business off the ground I realised I needed help to get through some of the challenges I was facing. That’s when I employed my first Life Coach, from the very first session I had with my coach I fell totally in love with coaching. I was experiencing breakthrough after breakdown both mentally and professionally and the whole coaching process changed my life forever!

Through coaching, I became hooked on anything to do with personal development, I just couldn't get enough of it and so that it started me looking into becoming a life coach myself. I wanted others to feel the breakthroughs I had experienced myself through coaching and I wanted to share this wonderful experience with as many people as I possibly could.

When I took out my Coaching diploma, I was running my own cafe and outside catering business.

Afer doing some intensive research on how to become a qualified life coach I decided to attend TCA’s Free Foundation in Life Coaching Course. Those 2 days confirmed my passion and that I definitely was on the right path. The Days were jam packed full of pure coaching goodies and I never wanted that weekend to come to end! I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of those 2 days and there was nothing left to do except enrol for my full Diploma so that I could continue on this amazing journey. I knew without a doubt that I had picked the right company to train with. The professionalism of The Coaching Academy is high, and they certainly ticked all the boxes for me when it comes to looking for an educational platform to help take your career to the next level.

What was the most rewarding part of the journey?

The most rewarding part of my training journey was the practical assessments. I enjoyed the live coaching sessions with my practice clients and knowing that I had an assessor listening in on my calls was a tad scary, but exciting at the same time. For me, the feedback I received after each practical assessment was invaluable as it allowed me to measure my own progress as a coach.

How did the qualification slot in with your busy life?

I found it pretty easy to fit my diploma around my busy lifestyle as I knew I was not restricted to a time frame to qualify within. This made me feel at ease and allowed me to choose a time frame that fitted within and around my own lifestyle. So, I simply organised my diploma and set myself a schedule of tasks to complete each week. I found this approach worked better for me as it allowed me to complete by diploma in the time scale I had given for myself.

Where are you now?

I recently launched my coaching business into the big wide world. I’m really excited about the whole process and where it’s going to take me. I love working with women, who have big dreams of becoming their own bosses running their own show. It’s always been a massive passion for me to help women feel empowered and confident allowing them to take the necessary action in order for them to live their dreams out loud!

What are your top tips for:

People who are looking at coaching:

Go for it!! If you have been sitting on the fence thinking “should I?”, get off now and launch into your own coaching career.

Those coaches currently in training:

Get your head down and get qualified people need your help! Organise and do your modules in accordance with the up and coming Accelerator days. Work on your final paper as you’re going along.

Coaches that are about to qualify:

Congratulation!! Absorb all your learning and give yourself a massive pat on the back. Reflect back on all your notes. Book on as many CPD days as you can once you’re qualified. I have found them to be extremely useful and they have deepened my knowledge base immensely.
