Louise Hook - How coaching boosted my career

The Coaching Academy Blog

Posted: July 2018

This week, our lovely coach, Louise Hook who is doing her third diploma with us, shares her interesting coaching journey and how coaching empowered her to transform her clients' lives. Louise recently got promoted at work thanks to her wonderful coaching work and continuous personal development and learning.

We hope you enjoy…

What inspired you to join the coaching academy?

I want to help people. I have always listened to my friends and work colleagues and was intrigued to know more about how coaching can be used to help people. I chose to study with The Coaching Academy because I liked that they have a lot of practical skills that are assessed as part of their Diploma.

What was/is your profession before becoming a coach?

I have always worked in the finance industry and in particular people management. I have been in my current company for almost 10 years and manage the Customer Service department.

What is the most amazing thing you have learned through the Coaching Academy?

I have learned that everyone has the power to come up with their own solutions, coaching is a way of harnessing the life changing information within us. I will never get bored of seeing the difference coaching can have for an individual as they go through their goal journey.

What was the most rewarding part about the course for you?

I found that seeing people improve themselves was the most rewarding part for me. I cannot believe some of the transformations I have seen happen because of having coaching sessions with me. I think that is rewarding for me and the client as well.

How did you fit coaching training into your busy life?

At the busiest time I was studying the PPD, NLP and working full time. I managed to fit everything in with my trusty diary. This allowed me to plan everything I was doing. I then kept to my plans as I knew that it was working towards my overall goal to have my own coaching business and help people full time.

Where are you now?

I am still working full time but am starting a new role as Training & Quality Assurance Manager. I was awarded this role because of all the fantastic work I had put in outside of working hours to coaching and learning new skills.

I am also setting up my own coaching business to provide face to face relationship and positivity coaching. This will be to people in the Oxfordshire area initially, but I want to expand in the future to do this full time and all over the country.

How are you using coaching skills?

I use my coaching skills every day when I am managing my team. I often provide coach sessions to people in the evenings as well.

Your tips for:

People who are looking to become coaches?

If you feel that you have the skills to be a good coach, then take the leap of faith and go for it. There is nothing more satisfying than doing something you love and are good at.

People who are in training with The Coaching Academy?

Keep at it. There is a lot of work to complete for the Diplomas, but everything is there for a reason. Use the materials and support from the TCA team as much as possible, and strive to get the most you can out of the course before you finish it all and suddenly it has all ended.
