Coaching Truly Transformed My Life - By Sayyida Bano

The Coaching Academy Blog

Posted: June 2018

'It has been a truly transformative journey' - as our wonderful coach and mother of 5 children, Sayyida Bano shares with us this week her inspiring coaching journey and how coach helped her overcome her challenges and limiting beliefs and empowered her to transform other people's lives. For Sayyida, investing in one's own personal development is priceless, and she is so glad that she did.

We hope you enjoy…

What brought you to coaching?

I gave up my job in teaching and I began to home educate my children, over 10 years ago. I was a full-time home educating mum of 4 when I decided I wanted to continue my personal development and I came across TCA's Free Foundation in Life Coaching Course in July 2015.

Tell us about your journey whilst you were working hard to qualify

I enrolled on the Life Coaching Diploma in summer of 2015 and I was expecting to have it completed within the year. However, life had other plans - I fell pregnant and got thrown off track. My pregnancy was difficult and after having life-threatening surgery during labour, I fell into a state of depression. It was a moment in my life when I questioned everything, and I became extremely overwhelmed. After several months of feeling stuck, I knew I had to get back to my coaching studies. I knew that this would help me to find my focus. My last accelerator day had been with Pam Lidford on Values & Beliefs and the concept of Paradigm Shift really intrigued and resonated with me. As I sat in front of my computer – I knew that this was what I was going to understand in order to get myself out of feeling the way I had been doing for a while. That was the moment when my journey of self-empowerment began. I literally spent months studying Paradigms and how they govern our lives. It helped me to understand the science behind the power of our belief systems and made me question many of the beliefs I held. I began asking questions – why do I believe what I believe? And Why do I do the things that I do? In coaching we are taught about the importance of asking questions so as I asked myself many questions and I came to realise many of the limiting beliefs I held about myself. I was also able to identify the limiting beliefs easily of those around me. It put me on the path of studying some of the big giants in the self-development industry such as Bob Proctor, Brian Tracey, Tony Robbins, Stephen Covey, Napoleon Hill as well as others. When I started to overcome my limiting beliefs, I became more organised, focussed and determined.

Where are you now? How are you using your coaching skills?

I began to realise the value of what I had been learning and wanted to take this knowledge to mainstream audiences. I suppose our thoughts are very powerful and I was given the opportunity to put my knowledge into action at a local school. Since my learning – I have gone on to develop a Holistic Model of Education with other coaches which has a series of programmes called I AM AWESOME for pupils, parents and teachers to develop 21st Century Skills, Leadership & Character Building. I am so excited about the opportunity of piloting this project at the school as my intention is to take the programmes on an international level and help to empower the lives of many individuals and put them on a path of greatness.

Unfortunately, many people don’t understand what coaching is. They think it either has something to do with football or giving advice. I want to help others understand the power of coaching and how it raises awareness and understanding within the individual which helps them to learn so much about themselves and ultimately empowers them. It is a very powerful intervention.

Which bits did you enjoy the most?

To be honest I really enjoyed it all. The most empowering were the Values & Beliefs & the Disc Profiling Accelerator Days. I learnt a lot about myself. In order to empower others and be truly authentic – you have to feel empowered yourself and be constantly striving to bring out the best in yourself – how else can you do justice to anyone else.

Could you summarise your coaching experience with TCA?

I remember in the GR Accelerator day when Kris Robertson said ‘If you follow the GROW’ model you will be a good coach. However, if you really study around the subject, do the recommended reading and practice – you will become an excellent coach.  I didn’t want to be good – I wanted to be an excellent coach. He also said that the first person that you coach is yourself so expect your life to change. This really was the truth and one that I experienced personally.

What was the most rewarding part of the journey?

The most rewarding part is to have qualified as a Performance Coach with 5 children, having overcome my personal challenges and struggles and created programmes that can help so many people. It has been the journey of self- development that I began with The Coaching Academy that has helped me to achieve that. It has also awoken a greater passion and desire within me to continue learning, developing and overcoming my personal challenges so I can continue to help many others.

What would you say to someone thinking of enrolling with The Coaching Academy?

If you want to change your life personally and want to empower others – this is the diploma for you. It has truly been a transformative experience for me and I found that the support I needed was always there. The Accelerator Days were jam packed with some amazing teaching and learning and really helped to embed the learning that was done at home. I found the coaching assessment calls and the feedback given really beneficial.

In Summary

Stop overthinking it. You are ultimately investing in your own personal development and that is priceless. I am so glad I did!
