We recently caught up with Claire Cahill, TCA Executive Coach of The Year 2016 to ask her some quick questions for Top Coaches' 'Getting Clients' Tips series this week. We hope you enjoy
Claire Cahill is a confidence and leadership coach. She currently works in a large corporate organization coaching team leaders as well as running her own business, Accendo Coaching & Training.
Why did you decide to become a coach?
After my second maternity leave I had a bit of a confidence crisis. So I enrolled onto TCA's Free 2-Day Event and within 24-hours, in my husband’s words, he got his wife back with a sparkle in her eye and confidence beaming out of her.
How has coaching helped you?
I’ve been able to look at the mirror and look at myself. Look at what I do really well, and do more of that. Look at the things that present me with a challenge every day, then employ a coach to help me get over those challenges. It’s also helped my family life as well. My children regularly ask me, “When are you going to coach me”, but little do they know that I just coach them every day!
How did you find your coaching niche?
My niche is confidence and leadership. I found my niche through having a complete confidence crisis and not wanting anyone else to be in that position that I’d been in. And having always worked in the corporate world, I wanted to escape leadership, but then realized that was my expertise and what I know best. And so, my niche found me.
How did you build your client base and find your first client?
By networking. I made a list of 100 people and contacted 100 people. I wasn’t afraid of the rejection. I also employed a coach, because every coach needs a coach. They helped me with my whole marketing strategy and the ability to be able to knock on doors and handle those rejections. I got my first client whilst training at The Coaching Academy on my Corporate and Executive Coaching Diploma. So, my first client was a coach who I’d trained with and I still have a picture of my first cheque.
What are your top tips for coaches getting clients?
