The Coaching Academy Blog

Posted: June 2017

My coaching journey began with The Coaching Academy's free 2-day event back in 2015. These 2-days truly gave me the confidence to move on and enrol on the Personal Coaching Diploma course as they gave me an insight into what I would be doing and how the things I would be learning could help improve my personal skills and career goals.

Doing the coaching workshop activities was helpful for me as it helped to identify how much development I needed!  The coach trainers demonstrated different areas of the Diploma programme, their own experiences and the difference coaching made to their lives and the positive impact it was having on others. The added reassurance of the support and mentoring I would get on my coaching journey was the thing that finally motivated me to sign up for the Diploma course.

I was able to assess where in my life I could use the activities learned and how signing up on the course could improve my personal skills: for example, the listening skills exercise highlighted how struggling I was to remember what the next person said. This awareness was helpful for me and it also brought other areas of my life to the surface to evaluate and make changes.

Enrolling on the Diploma course and coaching myself and being coached helped me to work effectively on my own personal goals by having a clear vision and approach to achieving them using the GROW model.  I started off with no clear direction, lack of confidence and poor communication skills.  On a scale of 1-10 when I started I was a 4 and now a 9!

I see myself as a now successful coach who started with little or no knowledge of coaching, to being equipped with the right skills and tools to deliver productive coaching sessions.

As a result of completing the Diploma, I have improved my time management, interpersonal and organisational skills.  I was also able to improve on my presentation skills overcoming the fear of rejection and understanding the importance of being less non-judgemental of others.

The different elements of the course helped me become a more creative communicator, building rapport and empowering both myself and others.  I learnt how to tap into my intuition and use DISC personality profiling to identify learning styles and being flexible in my coaching approach.  I also learnt how to set boundaries whilst respecting others values and beliefs and yet challenging them if they are limiting their progress.

The different modules of the course gave me a balance of how to set a business or design a career path and at the same time, develop my skills. A clear structure and guideline on how to set up a coaching business, knowing the first point of contacts was also included in the information pack.

The 1-1 mentoring sessions were very useful for me whenever I got stuck or just wanted to talk things through. I ultimately went on to make my own decisions and understood the importance of an accountability partner.  I found that the mentoring sessions really helped boost my confidence.  What I like most about The Coaching Academy is that they give you access to the whole community and you don’t have to struggle to find practice clients which is great.  I would recommend the Life Coaching Diploma programme to anyone who really wants to make a difference to other people’s lives or even to improve their personal growth.
