Discovering coaching itself was like a gem to me because of how self-empowering it is. I have always believed that we all have the power within us to overcome life's challenges and found that coaching gives us the tools to do this further. This understanding is what led me in to pursuing coaching as a career from 2010 when I first studied with the Coaching Academy.
Later on I discovered NLP and was amazed at the results it brought in helping people overcome challenges in a very short space of time. I knew I wanted to study it and chose The Coaching Academy as a reputable company whom I'd previously studied with. I took the NLP Practitioner course in 2013 and have been using it to help clients overcome all kinds of personal health and wellbeing challenges ever since.
‘I chose the Niche of ‘health recovery coach’ because of my background in the health sector as an exercise referral instructor and my own personal health recovery journey as a young child.'
I grew up with serious health conditions and as a child I was in a wheelchair until the age of 11, not being able to do any physical activities other than swimming , I managed to overcome this limitation to not only walk freely but to become a fitness instructor and black belt in karate by the age of 22.
In addition to this I have overcome many other illnesses and injuries in record time in my life, proving the power of the mind-body connection each and every-time.
Some of my biggest learning curves in turning coaching in to a business have been in the best ways to market myself to the right clients. Choosing a niche is very important and aligning it with your personal story makes a big difference as this allows people to really connect with you and who you are as a person.
The highlights of my coaching journey are of course where I see clients have breakthroughs and overcome the challenges they've been suffering with for so long - for me there isn’t anything more rewarding than this.
‘I really can't speak highly enough of both NLP and The Coaching Academy and how much they've contributed to my work and those I work with.’
For coaches looking to apply for an award next year I would recommend that you continue making progress on your coaching journey. It really is a journey and we are continually progressing. When I look back now after receiving this award, it makes all the challenges on the way mean far more and it is also testimony to all who are on that journey to help improve the lives of others.
When we choose to do something we love to make a real difference in the world it may not be easy, but it is always worth it.
I continually look to update my knowledge particularly in the area of NLP which has vast potential and would choose The Coaching Academy first and foremost because of the great experience I've had with them.
I love both coaching and NLP because of the difference I know it makes. To anyone reading this considering either path I would say go for it, it will make a huge difference to both yourself and others.
A big thank you again to The Coaching Academy for all your contributions to my journey so far.
