My Path towards Coaching - Gonul Eronen

The Coaching Academy Blog

Posted: August 2016

For a good part of my life I allowed a strong Ego to emerge. I created my own internal limitations, deep seated fears, illusions and powerlessness as a woman because deep down I didn't have the intention, strength or courage to take responsibility for my own life. I have now come to a point of living which reveals that there is more to life than appears on the surface of what we call our reality.

For a good part of my life I allowed a strong Ego to emerge. I created my own internal limitations, deep seated fears, illusions and powerlessness as a woman because deep down I didn’t have the intention, strength or courage to take responsibility for my own life. I have now come to a point of living which reveals that there is more to life than appears on the surface of what we call our “reality”.

Though blessed, I was limited by my family genes, my sensitivity to life’s challenges, my culture, my upbringing, and a limited belief in myself as to what I could be, do or have in this lifetime. Motivated by:”nothing ventured, nothing gained”, I became a Barrister, got married, had two sons, went on to become a judge. I thought I had it all.  I was a good, fair, impartial, yet sometimes radical, judge.  I was a motivated human being and I turned my back on my profession, 4 years before ı reached the top.

What happened?

I stopped being “in love” with my profession. I felt lack and incompleteness. My greatest challenges related to judgement and criticism of myself and others. Who was I?  What was my TRUTH? What did ı really want to do?

I dissected my personality into many parts in order to find stillness, peace, contentment and harmony. Something had to change.

I made a 180 degree life change. I was scared!  Despite the challenges, despite myself, I was curious about a new future and trusted the correctness of my decision to live a different life.

After three years in legal work, I asked myself “What’s my life’s purpose?  All I knew was that I wanted to share what I had discovered. Believing in one’s self. To those who wished to utilise their true strengths and realise their goals and dreams in life, I desired to be the facilitator, the educator and above all, the example. I wished for them to see the wonder of transformation, to identify the ways forward with strength and clarity from a place of self-awareness, confidence, trust and commitment so they can achieve a more fulfilled life as a better human being.

I believe true strength, balance, peace and happiness comes from the heart space not the mind alone, and never the other way round is what I discovered.  I began to reconnect to my “inner child” I had lost so many years back.

It took a great deal of patience, perseverance and love to “coach” myself to be a more loving and fulfilled person and it was no surprise when I identified a career in coaching was for me when I came across The Coaching Academy taster in coaching weekend in London.  In 9 months I qualified as a Personal Performance Coach; an unusual and unique combination, from judging to coaching, exact OPPOSITES.

I learnt it CAN be done. There ARE no limits as long as you have the confidence to believe that there aren’t any.  I became a facilitator for others and am so humbled in the work I now do, supporting others on their way to their full potential, self-awareness, confidence and success. To see at the end of a session my client’s confident smile and relaxed state is what now gives me the greatest joy.

Moral of the story: believe in YOU in every moment, get out of your own way; take the weight off your back and move forward with commitment and trust in creating a life which makes you a more balanced, happier and successful person.
What is true success in life, for you?  Are YOU who, and where you want to be?

Are you using all of your potential for fulfilment in this dimension called “Life on earth”?  Be honest!!

Do you have any goals you wholeheartedly want to achieve before you leave?
