How you begin your morning often sets the tone for the rest of your day. When you wake up feeling enthusiastic and energised you’re more likely to have a productive and positive day that helps you to perform at 100%.

Below are 10 ways to start your day the energised way:

1. Get a good night’s sleep

With so many of us juggling a variety of responsibilities it can be easy to sacrifice our sleep in order to keep on top of the ‘one last thing’ on our to-do list. Detaching from your phone and computer an hour before bed and getting a good night’s rest not only relieves stress it also allows you to wake up feeling recharged, clear headed and ready to tackle the day with a balanced body, mind and spirit. Consider going to sleep an hour or two earlier and notice if it makes a difference to your state of mind the next day.

2. Wake up earlier

Giving yourself ample time to wake up in the morning helps you to avoid waking up feeling rushed or panicked and provides you with enough time to get ready, eat or exercise so that you can begin your day in a state of calm and confidence. Maybe you can leave an alarm clock on the other side of your room so it forces you to wake up, wake up to up-beat music or plan a fun activity that motivates you to kick start your day.

3. Prepare for the day

Planning out your day the night before helps you to wake up and feel clear about what your priorities are and where you need to place your focus. This helps you to remain focused and avoid forgetting any potential plans which could slip your mind; it also helps you to remain on top of things before your day has even started.

4. Fuel your body

Setting off your day with a healthy breakfast and making a conscious effort to hydrate yourself allows you to keep your body and mind vitalised so that you remain physically and mentally alert. When you’re fuelled with healthy foods and hydrated you’re filled with energy that can positively impact your health and your day.

5. Have something to look forward to

One of the best feelings is waking up and knowing you have something to look forward to. When you know you have something exciting ahead you can wake up feeling more energised and enthusiastic about your day ahead. Maybe you can schedule a breakfast date with a friend, go for a morning walk or fit in a morning meditation before your day gets started.

6. Pick your clothes the night before

Planning what you are going to wear the next day and laying it out the night before not only makes your morning less chaotic it also allows you to choose something that makes you feel good about yourself and adds more time to your morning routine. Maybe you can experiment with wearing bold colours that make you feel confident.

7. Do what you love

Doing something that you feel inspired about can help you to feel more passionate and in alignment with your purpose. If you aren’t clear on what your life purpose is, become an observer for the day and make a note of all the activities that bring you the most joy. When you are focused on what you enjoy, you can begin the process of uncovering what you love and how you can make it a regular part of your day.

8. Exercise

Including exercise as a part of your routine not only pumps your endorphins it also boosts your confidence and helps you to feel more physically, mentally and emotionally balanced. Adding exercise into your weekly routine at a time that suits you helps you to approach your day with energy, focus and power. Maybe you can kick start your morning by attending a fitness class, hitting the gym or going for a jog.

9. Smile

Research has shown that smiling has been proven to produce feelings of happiness. When you start your day with a smile and smile at others it can automatically transform your mood and make your day more positive. Who could benefit from your smile today?

10. Express your gratitude

When you count your blessings and focus on what you feel grateful for, you’re automatically prepared to tackle your day with a positive outlook. Starting each day reciting five things you feel grateful for allows you to feel in control of your outlook and the direction your day takes.

Creating a few simple shifts in your routine can dramatically transform how your day pans out, when you wake up feeling energised and positive it can increase your level of self-confidence and well-being.
