Many thanks to Claire Cahill for sharing the key information about the Derbyshire coaching group and what it is that makes them unique.

What is the name of your coaching community?

The 3 Shires Coaching Group – Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire & South Yorkshire

Where do you meet?

Ibis Hotel, just off the M1 at J30 Barlborough, Chesterfield, Derbyshire

When does the group meet?

1st Monday in the month unless this is a bank holiday & then we move to the 2nd Monday.

What does a regular meeting look like?

We start our meeting at 7pm and finish at 9pm. Members and visitors are warmly welcomed with refreshments provided throughout the meeting. People are encouraged to be open, sharing thoughts and feelings. As a result we have a high level of group participation. The meetings take one of the following three formats:-

  • Speaker with a Q & A session
  • Workshop or presentation led by a member of the group on a CPD or niche topic
  • Coaching Practice in pairs or triads where each member gets an opportunity to be the coach, coachee and observer to provide coaching supervision.

How many people attend?

6 – 12 at an average meeting.

What sort of people attend?

There is a mixture of qualified coaches and coaches in training, NLP practitioners, hypnotherapists and trainers. Our members bring a diverse mix of skills and experience from private, public and corporate environments.

What makes your group different to others?

The group is run by a management committee comprising of Debbie Inglis – Chairperson, Claire Cahill – Treasurer and Wendy Gore – Secretary and Events coordinator. We have produced a website that includes our aims and core values, member profiles, membership options and blogs. A newsletter is distributed twice per month promoting the group and its members. Speakers have included Julie Starr, author of The Coaching Manual and John Dawbrowski, former international basketball player who speaks about Mental Toughness. We arranged a book writing workshop with Gail Powell, owner of Solopreneur so our members are now well on the way to becoming published authors. We are also proud of sharing members, ideas and speakers with other coaching groups

What would you say has been the best moment for the group?

Spending a day visualising what we wanted the group to look like, feel like, sound like and then experiencing the vision coming to life over the last year

What benefits do you experience?

As a management committee we have benefitted from

  • Working as a Team
  • Gaining new skills
  • Playing to our individual strengths
  • Having an opportunity to give back within the Shires community and beyond

What benefits do you think the group members experience?

  • Sharing tools and techniques
  • Networking Opportunities
  • Paid joint business ventures
  • Valuable discussions in a safe and confidential environment
  • Confidence Building for all coaches
  • Opportunity to gain feedback on coaching and workshops

What’s the best thing about your group?

The added value provided by the diverse range of people who attend.
