The Coaching Academy Blog

Posted: May 2014

We do like shining the spotlight on our coaches here at The Coaching Academy and nothing pleases us more than hearing about all of your success stories and sharing this with our networks. Not just a successful executive coach, Julie Hickton is director of her own limited company, and has successfully published her first book The Tree of Resilience.

We do like shining the spotlight on our coaches here at The Coaching Academy and nothing pleases us more than hearing about all of your success stories and sharing this with our networks. Not just a successful executive coach, Julie Hickton is director of her own limited company, and has successfully published her first book “The Tree of Resilience”.

Throughout my work as an executive coach I have had the privilege of working with a number of people who have overcome big challenges in their lives. I have been struck by how they have dealt with those difficult periods, so I started to ask myself:

What is it that enables some of us to manage the difficult periods better than others?

What are the qualities can help us to build our strength and capability to deal with the bigger challenges in life?

Because of my admiration for those who I have worked with, I have become more and more interested in resilience. I wondered why it might be helpful to develop these skills and whether it might be possible for me as a coach to help people better prepare for the future challenges we might face.

I spent some time studying and understanding what resilience meant to a deeper level. I spent a lot of time meeting and listening to the stories of a lot of different people who had overcome challenges, and met amazing, ordinary everyday women who have shared their amazing stories of resilience with me. It was also a time for me to look inward and begin to understand how I deal with difficulty.

In my research, I have found there to be 8 crucial elements to resilience- different skills, mindsets and approaches which can help everyday people to not just overcome the challenges in life.

I found that resilience also supports us to live a more enjoyable life, where we are more successful in the achievement of our goals.

I wanted to be able to support the people I worked with more than I was able to do in the coaching sessions- after the discoveries that I had found. So I challenged myself to write a book. This definitely tested my own personal resilience! I talk about the 8 different components of resilience, and how we can develop our skills to live a better, fuller and more resilient life. The book also sahres the amazing stories of women who have amazingly overcome big challenges in their lives.

My book is now published, and is one important step in my coaching journey that I am proud of, and that I hope helps many others to live a resilient life and to achieve their goals!

It has been a real pleasure to develop my coaching expertise to help people with such an important skill to make a big difference in their lives.

I wish you a resilient and joyful life!
