Book Yourself Solid - Book Review

The Coaching Academy Blog

Posted: November 2008

Book Yourself Solid by Michael Port
(John Wiley & Sons 2006)

Reviewed by Colin Edwards.

Michael Port brands himself as ‘the guy to call when you’re tired of thinking small’. His easy-to- read principles to growing a service business or practice are equally applicable to start up enterprises.

Even if you think you have a pretty good grounding in sales and marketing, you will find that Port offers some helpful reminders and many of his original approaches can deliver valuable insights about client creation without drowning you in a flood of pop psychology.

The volume has three main sections. The first outlines the foundations and essential values of establishing an ethical enterprise, the next focuses on building trust and credibility and the book closes with an in depth tutorial on using seven core strategies to promote yourself and your business. The chapter on creating a cost effective web presence is especially valuable in this respect. This is an essential cornerstone for any entrepreneur’s reference library.
